This was a season defined by composure in the toughest moments for our Under-18s. And our goalkeeper Smarnik’s performances were instrumental in ZFA’s journey to the final, consistently stepping up when the stakes were highest.
His penalty saves in the final round against East Bengal FC and Reliance Foundation Young Champs kept the team in contention, while another crucial stop in the semi-final against Bengaluru FC further underlined his ability to deliver on the biggest stage. These moments were not just highlights… they shaped our memorable campaign.
Hailing from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, and currently in Class 12, Smarnik comes from a humble background. With his father working in the electrical department in the railways and and his mother managing the household, his journey since childhood is rooted in discipline, sacrifice, and quiet determination. Despite his strong presence on the pitch, he remains grounded and focused off it.
He aspires to become one of India’s top goalkeepers and represent the country at the highest level, with the goal of playing in the ISL and making the nation proud.
This ‘Best Goalkeeper’ award is thoroughly deserved… not just for the moments that stood out, but for the consistency behind them. It is also a reflection of the pathway that the Zinc Football project continues to build for young talent across the country.
