Our Zinc Football Academy footballers participated in the SGFI (School Games Federation of India)-organised 64th National School Games U-14 Boys Football Tournament held in Kokrajhar, Assam.
The almost fairy-tale run of our boys, participating in their first major tournament out of Rajasthan, came to an end as they went down fighting in the Quarter-final against a strong and experienced Jharkhand team. The keenly contested match ended 0-1 in favour of Jharkhand, which also happened to be the first goal conceded by our team in the whole tournament.
Nonetheless, it was fantastic all-round show by our boys who scored as many as 16 goals in four matches to make it to the quarter-finals of such a big tournament. In the three league matches, we defeated Rajasthan 1-0, Andhra Pradesh 7-0 and New Delhi 5-0. Proceeding further, in the Round of 16 we got the better of KVS 3-0 before meeting Jharkhand in the Round of 8.
Considering this was our debut in a competition of such stature and the young boys having stepped out of Rajasthan for the very first time, there were many aspects of the game which the boys made sure to learn from this competition and their opponents.
This is just the beginning of our journey!
